How important is it to vision your future!
One of the things that has held me back in life has been the ability to know exactly where I wanted to be. In other words the ability to not only set goals but see them in my minds eye. I guess I was too busy getting on with the everyday things in life and not taking the time to ‘see’ exactly where I wanted to be, I didn’t really have a vision for my future.
This changed in the last 10 years or so and tit was at this point my life turned around. The reason I am telling you this is not to talk about me, but to stress the importance of having a vision. Write down your goals, where do you want to be in your business life and your personal life and just as importantly write down the reason why you want this and then feel yourself there. What does it feel like to drive your dream car, live in your dream house, what are you doing with that dream bank account. Feel yourself having what you desire and then work towards it and you cannot do anything else except succeed.
Gosh I was beginning to sound like a preacher there, but, it is important if you want to be truly successful.
One thing however eluded me and that was a picture of our dream home, well not really because we are living in our dream home. At least it was 5 years ago and is where Jane and myself live in Crete. This was bought as a shell and renovated by myself and we are very happy here. But now we want to vision something more, we want to stay here on Crete but the problem has been the actual property we want to live in.
There are thousands of villas here on Crete most of them very new, expensive and quit frankly a bit tasteless, and I couldn’t vision just what I wanted!
Then something strange happened, a friend of our who has a villa for sale asked Jane and myself to go and look at it to see if we could give her some advice on selling it. And that was it.
It is everything I want but couldn’t just imagine. It was built about 20 years ago and stands in mature grounds with mature trees around, a nice pool, three bedrooms and plenty of room for our dogs and family or friends to visit.
So did we go and buy it? Not yet,we are working towards it but within two years it will be ours, I know it and feel it, mentally I am living there, nothing can stop me and I am so grateful that I have been offered this house and lifestyle.
So maybe you think I’m being a bit big headed, well that’s OK, I don’t really care. You see the lesson in this post is that if you want something in life then you really must picture what you want, and actually feel the experience of having it, before you do.
Do it – Vision your future!
This is what all really successful people do without fail, whether they realise they are doing it or not. If not then I urge you to start and vision your future, not tomorrow, start today.
I look forward to your comments on this.
Dave

Without being specific in what your vision is, chances are you will loose focus on it quickly.
Being very specific about your vision will bring feelings of happiness and motivation.
Setting a dollar amount as one’s vision just brings stress and being overwhelmed.
Great post David!

Hey thanks for the post. You are right. Vision is key. How can you hit the mark if you don’t have one first off. Second you must honestly believe you can acheive it if your going to have success. Keep helping people see their vision, if you want to realize your own vision.

This is a great practice Dave. Self actualization works. It’s the will power that doesn’t always follow suit. That’s where real self discipline comes into play. Remember, you are what you think! Thanks for sharing.

Self discipline is very important and I have to get out of bed very early, 5.00am, in order to do the things I need to do to reach my goals. If ever I struggle with this, and yes I am human, I just say to myself “how badly do you want it Dave”, that always does the trick.
Love the post David. It is so true. The visioning drives the motivation to reach a goal. Thanks for sharing your dream!

It’s amazing the further along I get on my personal journey the more things keep dropping into place.
Great post Dave. I think it’s so important to visualise your goals, it definately makes them more reachable. So much so that when I have carried out workshops on how to set up a business, one of the exercises I have done is make my students create a visionboard of where they want to be in one years time. It’s so interesting seeing what everyone wants. It’s often not about money but about having a stress free life.

I could not agree more. I follow Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich and have developed a Definite Major Purpose (DMP). The DMP is specific, timed, realistic and focused. I read it out loud to myself 2 times a day (with enthusiasm) and it has made all the difference in the world. A first I felt a little awkward doing that, but now there is no question in my mind that my goals will be realized.

I love this concept, it is so powerful. And the sad truth is most people do not do this. Thanks for sharing!

David I totally love this post because I am big on visioning! A lot of people tell you to write down your “Why” but thats not enough! You need to visualize you having the success you want! Thanks for the great value David!

Dave… Say it again.. I’m all about visualizing.. Ask the Benz dealer in my city..lol.. I know EXACTLY how it feels, smells, looks to drive my dream car.. I’ve yet to find my home yet I keep looking.. Yet after reading this post.. I think I need to review my goals.. Thanks so much and keep smiling
It certainly does work and I have been doing it for years, but never on a big enough scale. I have now shifted my thinking to another place and the bigger things are now falling into place.
